As we approach the end of the year, the urge to set fresh goals is strong. But true, lasting progress doesn’t have to start on January 1st - it can begin today. At FARMERSTRENGTH™, we emphasize that aligning with nature’s cycles, rather than just the calendar, offers a unique and effective approach to achieving lasting results. With all the contradictions in our calendar system, looking to nature’s perfect design provides a true advantage.

The Lunar and Solar Calendars: Alternative Perspectives on the Year’s Cycle
Most modern societies follow the Gregorian calendar, marking the new year on January 1. However, this date was chosen more for civil and organizational ease, perhaps even intentionally, to keep us out of alignment with natural rhythms, rather than for any astronomical significance. Before this system, many ancient calendars were based on the lunar cycle, aligning with a 28-day rhythm that mirrors the phases of the moon. Lunar months average around 29.5 days, yet many ancient cultures—including the Egyptians and the Celts—adopted calendars with 13 months of 28 days each to align more closely with the lunar cycle.

Our current calendar’s structure can feel out of sync with nature. Consider September, October, November, and December—each named for Latin numbers (septem for seven, octo for eight, novem for nine, and decem for ten), yet they fall in the ninth through twelfth months. December, derived from the Latin for “ten,” actually marks our twelfth month. These inconsistencies highlight how human-made calendars can create artificial structures. In contrast, nature offers a design that’s straightforward and dependable, inviting us to look beyond the numbers to find a truer rhythm.

The Solar Year: A Natural Beginning at the Winter Solstice
Technically, the solar year begins at the winter solstice in December, marking the shortest day and longest night of the year in the northern hemisphere. This day symbolizes a "new beginning" in many ancient cultures as the Earth begins its journey back toward longer days and increased sunlight. The winter solstice, which occurs around December 21 each year, offers a natural opportunity to start fresh. While society counts down to January 1, those who tune into the solstice start their journey a little earlier, in alignment with nature itself.

At FARMERSTRENGTH™, our training methods follow this alignment, incorporating breaks during these cycles to allow the body to rest, reset, and reflect. These periods are a cornerstone of our philosophy, helping you renew and prepare for continued growth.
