Introduction: Aligning with the Power of the Full Moon
In 2024, at Envision Festival in Costa Rica, I found myself captivated by a talk given by the Bri-Bri people, an indigenous community deeply attuned to the natural world. They had just wrapped up an inspiring discussion on our essential connection to Mother Nature, reminding us that the Earth is our provider, offering everything we need freely and abundantly. With reverence, they spoke of the importance of caring for the land, respecting its cycles, and acknowledging our intertwined relationship with every tree, river, and stone. Their words stirred something powerful within me—a call to return to nature’s rhythms, to listen more deeply, and to live with intention.
Being Irish, I’ve always been fascinated by indigenous cultures around the world and by my own family roots, including the ancient Irish who left behind stone circles and monuments like Newgrange. Too often, our history focuses on the more recent struggles with Britain, yet long before that, we were an incredibly intelligent society, very likely connected to other indigenous groups worldwide. As Joseph Campbell once noted, while Western society often labeled indigenous peoples as “savages,” a simple glance at the crime pages of the New York Times—or many city streets—shows us where true savagery lies. This connection to ancient wisdom sparked a deep sense of reverence in me, reinforcing a bond with those who live closely with the land.
As I absorbed their ancient wisdom, my attention drifted to a nearby seminar where Violetta Anestopoulou, a certified holistic health and detox practitioner, was sharing insights on the natural power of water and the moon’s cycles. I was quickly drawn into her seminar as she spoke about the unique benefits of fasting during a full moon, mirroring the gravitational influence on the tides and our bodies—a phenomenon we can actually observe with our own eyes through the rise and fall of the ocean’s tides. Her words resonated deeply, aligning with the Bri-Bri’s teachings, and inspired the creation of the FARMERSTRENGTH™ Full Moon Fast as a monthly ritual. This practice combines physical strength, mental resilience, and spiritual grounding, offering a chance to refresh, reset, and reconnect with the natural world.

The Importance of Fasting on a Full Moon
The Full Moon Fast is more than a physical reset; it’s a monthly commitment that embraces the natural power of the moon. The gravitational pull of the full moon influences our body’s water content, energy, and mental clarity, creating a powerful foundation for fasting. Here’s why fasting on a full moon is central to the FARMERSTRENGTH™ approach:
1. Heightened Energy and Mental Clarity
During the full moon, the body’s natural energy levels often peak, much like the tides. Many people experience a natural uptick in energy and alertness—which might explain why some people go a little “lunatic” around this time! Instead of letting that energy run wild, we can channel it toward productive, cleansing practices. Fasting during this period allows the body to harness that energy for restoration and healing, promoting mental clarity and focus. With the digestive system at rest, more energy is freed up for mental and physical recovery, fostering a calm and clear mindset—perfect for reflection and goal-setting. Additionally, fasting initiates a process called autophagy, where the body begins to break down old, damaged cells, promoting cellular renewal and removing harmful or “bad” cells. This natural cleansing helps the body to reset and rejuvenate from the inside out.
2. Enhanced Detoxification
The full moon’s gravitational effect influences the water within our bodies, much like it moves ocean tides. This gravitational pull promotes circulation and stimulates detox pathways, encouraging the body to release stored toxins. Fasting on a full moon aligns with this natural process, giving the digestive system a break and aiding detoxification through increased hydration. Fasting also has ancient roots and is referenced across many cultures and spiritual practices. In the Bible, fasting is highlighted as a pathway to spiritual purification and inner strength, symbolizing a time for cleansing and reconnecting with oneself. By fasting with the full moon, FARMERSTRENGTH™ participants can achieve a more profound cleanse, supporting cellular repair, immunity, and improved overall health.
3. Improved Discipline and Resilience
Fasting requires commitment and a willingness to embrace temporary discomfort—qualities that build resilience and self-discipline. The monthly Full Moon Fast is a training ground for these skills, helping participants strengthen their ability to overcome challenges, both physical and mental. By adopting this practice regularly, participants develop a mindset that is unshaken by discomfort and more in tune with the natural cycles of rest, cleansing, and renewal. This resilience transfers into other aspects of life, building the foundation for the strength FARMERSTRENGTH™ stands for.
4. Community and Connection
One of the most powerful aspects of the Full Moon Fast is its ability to foster community and connection among FARMERSTRENGTH™ participants. This shared experience unites individuals around a common purpose—building physical, mental, and spiritual strength. Each month, we encourage participants to check in with one another, share reflections, and support each other’s journeys, creating a space where every member can feel connected and inspired. This collective commitment to growth, healing, and balance is a cornerstone of FARMERSTRENGTH™.
